We believe everyone belongs in nature!
Our mission is to create a brave, but safe space for women and femme-identifying folks of color to explore nature and outdoor recreation. From Indigenous communities relationship with the land to the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers and Black Americans’ agricultural ties, BIPOC communities have always had a relationship with nature that should not be overlooked. But, after decades of exclusionary practices, we have not often been seen in the outdoor recreation and nature tourism space. We believe that it is our duty to push back against the narrative that Black and Brown people do not enjoy the outdoors. We hope to contribute in a small way to this important work!
In 2020, National Park Service data showed that 77% of park users are White while 42% of the American population would be considered POCs. Out of those 23% of POC park users, only 6% are Black.
Not only is representation important, we know the impact that being outdoors can have on your physical and mental health. We strive to create a space for women and femme-identifying folks of color feel comfortable to build connections to each other and our natural world.
With our presence, we hope to tell the fuller story of our connections to the environment and help mend some of the severed ties in our community.
We hope that you will join us!
